An Experience in an Australian Style
I cannot help not to talk about this wonderful experience that i had today and couple of days before, it was new for me, and it was really great that i felt like part of me is now open up on new things that i did not think I will be that close to.
A group of Australian media students came to visit our university, and luckily, I had the chance to actually meet them and talk to them about my country and our culture, and I was able to know about their culture too, which was really interesting for me to know what is happening at the other side of the world.
There are many things that I learned from them which I believe it will make a difference if we all learn it too. First, the simplest things are always the ones that make much difference; the smiling is important, it is just different when you talk to someone who is smiling while talking to you, and who listens carefully to what you are saying although he/she just met you, I really appreciate that. Another thing that we seem to be lacking a little, and I think I talked about it in my previous posts; negativity, I do not thing they even consider this word exist, all the meanings they use are full of life and hope, which really brings life into you. We should teach our selves to be so hopeful and optimistic, not to look for the negative things and highlight them, it would not do us any good neither will help us get through our problems. Of course everybody has a problem, I will not argue that, but it is important that we get them away from us and from destroying our lives and try to hear ourselves talking before letting other people do, because you might do them a favor by just talking the right words out.
I would like to think my Australian friends for being too sweet with us all, and for treating us like close friends even though we are too different from each other. But again, the nature of human mind is amazing, we can still see matching point in an astonishing way. Language might be the only common thing that we can see as an obvious thing, but getting deeper into this, I could see that we are so much alike and we like and hate many things in common. This made me feel that we are really living in a small planet, and those distances does not really mean anything for us, it is just small steps away from home, but again, what is home!
I hope that our guests leaned many things from our small meetings and the information we exchanged, I know I did. And I hope I will get the chance to have the same experience again but next time me being the guest.
Thankyou Hope! It's funny that you say we're so positive, because we were saying just the same thing about you.
ReplyDeleteI think you're right about our similarities - in the West, Arabs and Muslims always seem so different. But now that we have met you, we can see that we have the same hopes and the same thoughts.
Thanks for taking us out on your weekend!
really enjoyed reading it
